DESIGN ECONOMY
As a kid, riding down Clifton Beach Road in my parents’ car, I would stare out the window, drawn in by all the ‘cool’ looking houses that lined the road, admiring their unusual designs.
Meeting with the adventurous young couple who own this property, I shared that early memory, and together we set about coming up with a design that would celebrate the creative contribution their home would make to their distinctive coastal community.
An inward focus toward the sunny side of the property provides privacy from the sometimes busy road, with operable window shutters providing further privacy and solar control.
Generous eaves first floor, & ground floor (to the rear), offer improved solar performance and a larger roof area for much needed on-site water collection.
The textured sandy tones, applied to a sharp and curvaceous form create a sculptural street front that reflects the fun and playful individuality of the character-filled coastal setting.
